Hi, i have a HP Laptop db0000 series.
internal toshiba drive broke and i want to replace it with a ssd disk with no rotating plate.
what kind of ssd would you suggest me?
regular SSD or i've read of more recent M.2, NVMe etc. but i'm not an expert.
A Samsung SSD 870 EVO would be fine?
Thankyou for your time.

You're very welcome.
Normally the drive capacities listed in the service manual are just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.
You should be able to install a NVMe SSD with a greater storage capacity than 256 GB.
The Crucial SSD report indicates that they offer NVMe SSD's up to 4 TB in the model series.

Since you have to open up the notebook to replace the drive, you may want to take this opportunity to remove the 4 GB memory chip and replace it with an 8 GB memory chip so you will have 16 GB of memory running in the better performing dual channel mode, rather than the single channel mode it is currently running at.
Not to mention you would have 4 more GB of memory available.

Hi:
Yes, since your notebook has an AMD AMD Ryzen™ 3 2200U processor, the M.2 SSD slot supports NVMe SSDs such as the Samsung 970 or newer Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD.
Below is the link to the service manual:

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

Since you have to use the utility on another PC, so you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is: 4JS92EA#ABZ

Thank you for your reply!
I would now just another thing:
is that correct that in case i choose SATA M2 or NVMe the capacity cannot exceed 256Gb?
as i read in https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06719946.pdf at page 2.
Bye

Thank you very much Paul, you are very kind.
but for It's not my laptop and i'm doing a favour to a friend i would opt for a more conservative, more secure option like a plain SSD disk. How you like an HD like samsung SSD 870 Evo 500Gb?
I follow your advice to increase ram (now it's 2X4Gb) but there are a lot of different types of memory banks around, can you tell me exactly what kind of memory type i have to buy? how many pins etc?
My fear is to buy something that cannot be mounted or recognized by the system.
Thank again Paul, keep up the good work!

Anytime.
Glad to have been of assistance.
Yes, I believe that the Samsung 870 Evo has the best performance specifications of any 2.5" SATA SSD on the market.
It used to be tied with the Western Digital Blue model, but the new WD Blue SA510 2.5" SATA SSD now has a slightly slower write speed, though it may cost less than the 870.
This DDR4-2400 memory chip should work fine with the 8 GB one HP installed:

Cheers, and Buon Natale (as my Sicilian grandparents would say 😊).

Hi Paul, I made the order for HD and RAM.
wow! Your grandparents are from Sicily!
I'm from Rome and i've always wanted to visit her because it's very beautiful, especially Palermo, not to mention the inner villages tied to old local traditions and obviously all the coastal perimeter, but always missed the right opportunity,
This friend of mine that brought me the laptop was from Sicily and came to Rome when was just a child.
This laptop gave Error 3FO or 3F0 at the start so he brought it to me,
i run the HP check utility that confirmed that was the disk broken indeed, it was a plain toshiba 1T not SSD.
Some data was very important and now seem lost forever.
I connected the HD on my pc via a usb/SATA cable and tried to recover data but the software i found was very expensive.
During software download or setup it seem free, then, after reading data they let you recover just a tiny fraction of it free and then try to charge you big money to recover the rest. it disappoints me.
Maybe you can save me again? Is there a program, maybe directly from toshiba, to recover data, possibly free of charge?
Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo!

Hi:
Yes, my mother's parents and her grandparents were from Sicily.
My great grandmother and grandparents were from Ragusa, and my great grandfather was from Castelbuono.
My wife and her brothers and sisters took a tour of Italy a few years ago. Rome, Venice, the Amalfi coast...They enjoyed it.
Have you tried the free Recuva software?
That is the only free data recovery program that I know of offhand.
Recuva - Free Download (ccleaner.com)
Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo anche a te!
Cheers,
Paul
