HP 2000 Notebook PC

My mother-in-law's laptop crashed, and when I restarted it, a smart HD check screen popped up. Once I ran diagnostics, the HDD failed, resulting in the failure id GGD9UX-6NPA59-MFGJWJ-60DN03. Does this mean that the HDD has fried? If so, is there any way to recover her files?

Yes, you need a new hard drive. Buy a SSD.

To recover the files, buy a USB-to-SATA adapter cable. Remove the hard drive and connect it using that cable to a working PC.
