Thanks for laying out the full history — that helps a lot. Based on what you’ve described, it really does sound like the BIOS updates (from F.28 → F.29 → F.31) introduced instability with your system’s audio controller and network interface controller (NIC).

Here’s what you can try step by step:

1. Confirm BIOS Rollback Option

Restart your PC and tap F10 to enter BIOS setup.

Look under BIOS Management / Update — many HP BIOS versions allow you to “Rollback” to a previous BIOS (such as F.27).

If rollback is available, try downgrading to the last stable BIOS version where your audio + network worked normally.

If rollback is not listed in BIOS:

You can manually download an older BIOS (F.27 or whichever worked fine) from HP’s support site for your model using another device and create a recovery USB.

2. Clean Reinstall of Drivers

After the BIOS issue, Windows may be confused with drivers:

Boot into Windows.

Open Device Manager → expand Sound, video and game controllers and Network adapters.

Right-click each device → Uninstall device → tick Delete driver software.

Reboot, then install fresh drivers from the HP Support page for your notebook using your product number (68U87UA#ABA).

Install Realtek/Conexant Audio driver

Install Intel/Realtek LAN + Wireless driver

Finally, reinstall HP chipset drivers

3. Reset BIOS Defaults

Sometimes settings get corrupted between updates:

Reboot → Tap F10 → Select Restore Defaults → Save and Exit.

4. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

Power off laptop → press Esc repeatedly → choose F2 Diagnostics.

Run System → Component Tests for Audio and Network.

If either fails, it points to BIOS/firmware corruption or hardware failure.

5. If Issues Started Only After BIOS Updates

If the problems only began post-F.28, it’s very likely not hardware damage but firmware regression. In that case, rolling back to F.27 is your best bet.

My recommendation: Try rolling back BIOS first — since you’ve already replaced the WiFi card and done multiple Windows resets, the BIOS update is the root cause.
