If your HP Pavilion x360 has a blank screen but works fine when connected to an external monitor, the issue is likely with the laptop's internal display or its connections. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to identify and possibly fix the issue.
Check Display Brightness
- Ensure that the screen brightness is turned up. Sometimes, the display might be dimmed to the point where it appears black.
Toggle Display Mode
- Use the keyboard shortcut (usually Fn + a function key like F4 or F5) to toggle between different display modes (e.g., laptop screen only, external monitor only, duplicate, extend).
Update or Reinstall Display Drivers
Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting it.
- Expand the "Display adapters" section.
- Right-click on your graphics adapter and choose "Update driver."
- Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.
Reinstall Drivers:
- Right-click on the graphics adapter in Device Manager.
- Select "Uninstall device."
- Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the graphics driver.
Check Display Connections
- Sometimes, the internal display connection might become loose. If you're comfortable opening your laptop:
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
- Remove the battery (if possible).
- Open the laptop casing carefully and locate the display cable.
- Ensure the display cable is firmly connected to both the motherboard and the back of the screen.
Perform a Hard Reset
- A hard reset can sometimes fix display issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices.

Test with BIOS/UEFI
- If the internal display is not working even during boot (no HP logo or BIOS screen), it might indicate a hardware issue:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it on and immediately press the appropriate key (often F2, F10, Esc, or Del) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- If the screen is still blank, the problem is likely hardware-related.
