Okay so the other day I got this laptop from my friend and he said he wasn’t sure if it worked or not so I went home and plugged it in and I it did work but I had to end up deleting everything off of it which took about 9 hours to do but when it was finished it worked fine and anyways it reinstalled windows 10 back onto it along with all the apps that came with it.

And then my boyfriend has a HP laptop also and today I got on my laptop and I was looking at something and noticed something and saw that it says I have windows 8.1 now on it

but it did have windows 10 on it I seen it

I’m thinking that he may have took the drive out of his laptop that had windows 8.1 and and took my drive out of my laptop which had windows 10 on it and switched them out his in mine and he put mine in his.

IS THAT POSSIBLE ??

First off, you didn't tell us HOW you did this OS restoration -- as that impacts a lot.

Second, if the PC originally came with Win8.1 and you did a system reset, then it would restore the original OS, not Win10.

Third, yes it is certainly possible to switch drives between PCs, even though if they are seriously different hardware, that will result in the PCs not longer booting or working properly.  But, we would really have no way of confirming that, especially since the information you provided does not match any HP models.
