I have a Pavilion 17-g015dx. The hard drive went bad and I replaced it. Now I don't know how to get windows OS back on it. I have serial number, and have read some posts but can find where to get replacement media for Windows OS. I can download it since I have another desktop PC. I'd like to make media to image the new hard drive. Please let me know how HP can help me do this for free. I can't afford to buy new Windows OS. It's an older Notebook so I probably should install an older OS

Hi:
You can use the media creation tool to create a bootable W10 installation flash drive to reinstall W10 for free.
Make the 64 bit installation media.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
After W10 has completed installing you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g015dx (ENERGY STAR) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support
Since your notebook originally came with Windows 8.1, when you get past the install now screen, you will be asked to select what version of W10 you want to install.
Select W10 Home.
Then you will be asked to enter a product key.
Select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and activate.
