Hi @JKV79,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To perform a recovery on a Chromebook, follow these steps.
Requirements:
- A USB drive or SD card with at least 8GB of space.
- A separate working computer to create the recovery media.
Steps:
Prepare Recovery Media:
- On a working computer, go to the Chromebook Recovery Utility website.
- Install the Chromebook Recovery Utility from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open the Recovery Utility and select your Chromebook model from the dropdown or enter the Chromebook's model number (usually found on the bottom of the device).
- Insert your USB drive or SD card into the computer.
- Follow the prompts to create the recovery media. The tool will download the necessary recovery image and write it to the USB drive or SD card.
Recover the Chromebook:
- Turn off your Chromebook.
- Insert the recovery USB drive or SD card into the Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Esc + Refresh (the circular arrow) keys, then press the Power button to turn on the Chromebook. Keep holding the Esc + Refresh keys until you see a recovery screen.
- On the recovery screen, you will be prompted to insert a recovery media. Your Chromebook should automatically detect the USB drive or SD card with the recovery image.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the recovery process. The Chromebook will erase all local data and reinstall the Chrome OS.
Complete the Setup:
- Once the recovery process is finished, your Chromebook will restart.
- You can now proceed with the initial setup by connecting to Wi-Fi and signing into your Google account.
This will restore your Chromebook to its factory settings with the latest version of Chrome OS.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
