I don't have your model notebook but mine works by holding down the shift key and pressing the #2/@ key.

@AROLE1,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

If it is the case that @Paul_Tikkanen's solution doesn't work, it may be that your keyboard layout might be set to a different region (such as UK English), where the @ symbol is not on Shift + 2. Here are a few things you can try:

Temporary Fix:

Try these key combos:

  • Shift + '`' (key left of the number 1)

  • AltGr + 2

  • Shift + ' (apostrophe key)

If one of these works, your layout is not set to US.

To permanently fix it:

  1. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region

  2. Under Preferred languages, click your language > ... > Language options

  3. Under Keyboards, make sure United States - QWERTY is installed. If not, click Add a keyboard.

  4. After adding it, remove the incorrect layout (like "United Kingdom") if needed.

  5. You can also switch layouts via the taskbar (bottom right near the clock) by clicking the language icon (e.g., ENG UK ➝ switch to ENG US).

If you’re still stuck during setup, you can copy-paste this symbol to get going: @     😃

Let us know if it works!

@AROLE1,

And btw, AltGr stands for Alternate Graphic key. It's typically found on the right side of the spacebar, labeled as either:

  • AltGr, or

  • Simply Alt (right-side Alt key)

When is AltGr used?

It’s used mainly on non-US keyboards to access additional characters — like @, €, £, etc. For example:

  • On some European keyboards (e.g., German, Spanish, UK), AltGr + 2 might type the @ symbol.

  • On a US keyboard, AltGr isn’t needed — Shift + 2 should produce @.

If your keyboard doesn’t say "AltGr"

Don’t worry -just try the Right Alt key. On most Windows laptops, it acts like AltGr.

Cheers,
