PAVILION 15-N228SS TOUCH SMART
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I used to upgrade the OS long time ago using a free upgrade message from Windows.

But now, I have just recovered the system due to a system failure and I have recovered the W8.1 OS and I have no clue about how to upgrade it again.

Please, any recommendation.

Even if you don’t see a message from the get Windows 10 app on the taskbar, if the upgrade files have been downloaded to your PC, you can start the process via Windows Update.

You need to use the desktop version of Windows Update. To do that,

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key+X or right-click the Start button and select Control Panel from the power user menu.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of Control Panel and select Windows Update.
  • You’ll see the Windows 10 upgrade is ready. Just click the “Get Started” button.

Note that the upgrade might fail at first. You may need to retry it several times before it really started to work.

As you have encountered system failure after an upgrade, I strongly advise you to make a backup of your present system so that you can quickly recover from any unexpected failure after the installation.

Also make sure that the device hardward meets the minimum Windows 10 upgrade requirements.

Here's what it takes to upgrade to Windows 10 on your PC or tablet:

  • Latest OS: Make sure you're running the latest version—either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC

  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit

  • Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS or 20 GB for 64-bit OS

  • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

  • Display: 800 x 600

Hope my answer will help you.

Hi, @JCA2013

You should be able to upgrade back to W10 for free by clicking on the blue Update Now button at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the upgrade process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet, since Microsoft has a record of your PC having been previously upgraded to W10.
