Microsoft Windows 11

Hello HP Community,

I need urgent help with my HP 14s-fa1089AU laptop. The issue started when I got a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error with the stop code CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. After the laptop attempted to restart, the screen went black and now it won’t turn on properly.

Symptoms:

The screen remains black.

no HP logo or BIOS screen.

The keyboard backlights and Caps Lock light do not turn on.

The fans are running, but thereâs no other activity.

No response when trying to connect to an external monitor via HDMI.

No beeps or error codes when turning on.

The charging indicator light works when plugged in.

Hi @bmm_27, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It looks like your HP 14s-fq1089AU is experiencing a no-display issue after a BSOD. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

Perform a Hard Reset

Since the fans are running but there’s no display or keyboard response, perform a hard reset:

  1. Disconnect the charger and any peripherals (USB devices, external monitor, etc.).
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the charger and try to turn it on.

Check for BIOS Recovery (Win + B Method)

Since there’s no display, try recovering the BIOS:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Hold Win + B, then press and hold the power button for about 5-10 seconds.
  3. Release all keys and wait. If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions.

Try an External Display Again

You mentioned HDMI didn't work, but try again with the following steps:

  • Connect to an external monitor.
  • Press Windows + P multiple times to switch display modes.
  • Try pressing Fn + F4 (or the display toggle key).

Reseating RAM (if possible)

If your laptop has user-accessible RAM:

  1. Remove the bottom cover.
  2. Take out the RAM and reseat it properly.
  3. Try booting again.

CMOS Reset (for deeper hardware reset)

If the issue persists, try resetting the CMOS battery (if accessible):

  1. Disconnect the main battery and CMOS battery.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect and try booting again.

Check for Motherboard or Storage Failure

  • If the laptop had SSD failure, it might cause black screen issues. Try replacing it if you have a spare.
  • If none of the above works, the motherboard may be faulty, possibly due to a BIOS corruption after the BSOD crash.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
