Hello,
I'm trying to get the laptop mentioned in the title back up and running for my Girlfriend/Fiancée. As far as I can tell it still has Windows 8.1(64bit) as the OS. At present, the system will not post or boot into Windows. Under normal power on, it only shows an unpowered black screen, with an orange Wi-Fi led, and a caps lock led that does 2 long blinks. Using the ctrl-b/v combo does nothing unless a USB drive is plugged in with the HP BIOS recovery files on it. However, the only BIOS recovery files I've on here for this model do not work to recover the BIOS and throw an incorrect recovery signature error.
This laptop pc is the version that came stock with 4GB DDR3L 1600MT/s RAM, single So-DIMM slot, Intel Pentium N3520 Bay Trail Quad Core CPU, and 750GB HDD. Realtek 802.11N Wi-Fi without Bluetooth, only 1 antenna.
At first I suspected an RTC battery issue due to age and lack of use for multiple years. However, I've changed out the 2032 battery, cleaned the mainboard, and applied new thermal paste and pads to the CPU and few VRMs that contact the heatsink. Replacing the RTC battery hasn't fixed the issue, but, attempting BIOS recovery does make the screen come on with the BIOS recovery failed message due to bad signature file.
In the meantime, I have upgraded the RAM to 8GB DDR3L 1600, and plan on replacing the HDD with an SSD.
Any help finding the correct recovery/update BIOS for this laptop would be appreciated.
Originally having been a Windows 8.1 Laptop, it appears as though HP no longer has driver update or BIOS download links on their product sites for it.

Hi:
The latest BIOS update file I could find for the models in the 15-d0xx series with the Intel processors is F.1B.

Hello,
It is still giving the same error with that bios file. Not sure what would cause a bios signature issue during a reflash.
The only time the screen will come on with the laptop in question
So far those error screens are the only time the screen comes on. Also curious if it could be related to hdd failure. Or possibly try an older bios version.

Unfortunately, I would have no idea why that is happening.
If you have tried it with other versions already, it is doubtful that an older version will work.
It is too much trouble to hunt for the various updates through the HP FTP site.
If you want, here is the link to the 3rd party driver site I used to find the latest HP BIOS update I posted.
Since there are BIOS updates for Intel and AMD versions of the model series, chose the right files to experiment with.
Do a 'Find on Page' BIOS search in Micrsoft Edge to easily get to the list of various BIOS updates.

Found all 5 Intel BIOS revisions for Windows based systems. So going to do some testing and see if I can get one to pass the signature file thing.
I might have to use that site to see if can find some updates for this old 2010/11 HP Pavilion dv6 AMD p2 N620 based laptop I'm posting from, and the Toshiba of hers I worked on and upgraded the other day with the same AMD CPU.

I'm assuming that you have followed the instructions in these two videos to create and use the recovery drive?
How to create a BIOS recovery drive:
Creating a BIOS Recovery Flash Drive for HP Notebooks | HP Notebooks | HP Support
How to recover/update your notebook's BIOS with the USB recovery drive:
Restore the BIOS with a Recovery Flash Drive on HP Notebooks | HP Notebooks | HP Support
Another site for drivers would be the driverscollection.com site.
Their BIOS files may not be the latest ones, but they should have all of the drivers you need for the supported operating system the notebook came with.
