HP 15 Notebook PC Model No. 15-r224TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there. I need some help regarding my old HP 15 Notebook PC (Model No. 15-r224TX). I have an issue where I am getting a black screen at start-up and flashing lights on the caps lock button. I am aware that this indicates a BIOS corruption and requires reinstallation of the BIOS drivers. In my case, the traditional methods of doing so have not worked, so I need to download the drivers to a USB stick and attempt installation that way. The HP website does not currently provide any software support for this model of laptop. Are there any legacy files I can download that would help me? Thank you.

Hi:

These are the latest BIOS info and exe file links that I could find for that model series (F.44):

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp86501-87000/sp86793.html

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp86501-87000/sp86793.exe

Watch these videos for how to create and use a BIOS recovery flash drive with the above exe file using another Windows PC:

Hi Paul. I am very happy to report that the links to files and demo videos you provided have completely solved my problem! Everything worked the way it should have. This was really important for me because I needed to back stuff up from that PC before it gets retired, as it won't support Windows 11. I have now been able to do that and I have you to thank.
Thanks again so much, Paul - you really got me out of a jam there!
Cheers, James.

Anytime, James.

Glad to have been of assistance.

That's great news you were able to recover the BIOS so you can use the PC.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your notebook, you can use a workaround that bypasses the W11 hardware checks.

This is the easy method that I use to do an in-place upgrade from W10>W11 on PC's that don't meet Microsoft's W11 hardware requirements.

Awesome! Thanks again, Paul. That's really great to know. I will definitely look into this and see if I can make it work on the notebook. The link has been bookmarked already 🙂

Cheers, James.
