Hello, I have a HP 15 i7 Notebook. Suddenly one day it did not want to turn on at all. The LED was on, but it not want to start up. I asked a technician friend to remove the hard disk which he did. He tried to do a hard reset but no luck. When he returned the laptop with hard disk removed, my son of 10 switched on my laptop (on the charger) and it started up with the DOS screen asking for the OS. I could even do a memory check. Then I turned off my laptop again and gave it to my friend to put the hard disk back. Even before putting back the hard disk, he tried to switch it on - nothing. He returned the laptop and still nothing. Now not even the LED light goes on.

Hi @Stephan16,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP 15 i7 notebook is experiencing a complex issue, possibly related to power, motherboard, or other internal components. Here’s a detailed troubleshooting approach to diagnose and potentially fix the problem.
Check the Power Supply and Battery:
- AC Adapter: Ensure the AC adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet. Try a different power outlet or adapter if available.
- Battery: If possible, remove the battery (if it's removable) and try starting the laptop with only the AC adapter connected.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try powering on the laptop.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- RAM: Ensure the RAM modules are properly seated. You can try reseating or testing with different RAM sticks if available.
- Hard Drive: Ensure the hard drive is correctly reinstalled and properly connected.
- Internal Connections: Ensure all internal cables and components are securely connected.
Inspect the Laptop for Physical Damage:
- Look for any visible signs of damage, such as burnt components or loose parts inside the laptop.
Diagnostic LED Codes:
- Some HP laptops have diagnostic LED codes. If the LED lights blink in a particular pattern, consult the user manual or HP's support site for code meanings.
Check for Overheating Issues:
- Ensure that the laptop is not overheating. If it was running hot, it might have shut down to prevent damage.
External Display Test:
- Connect the laptop to an external monitor to check if there’s an issue with the display. If the external monitor displays anything, the problem might be with the laptop’s screen.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
