Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

wifi wouldn't work. Tried reinstalling driver. Rec'd blue screen of death. downloaded iso to usb. Installed to new partition. wifi still doesn't work. Would like to get a link to download recovery to reinstall all HP drivers needed.  Win8 original OS. Installed w10 last year. A clean install would be fine. It's my moms laptop and needs a way to communicate with family members. And apparently... HP only helps if you pay for tech support.

Youi're very welcome.

The parts list for the notebook indicates that it comes with an Atheros wifi adapter, for which W10 should have automatically installed a driver for.

You would have to buy recovery media from this 3rd party vendor, since HP no longer sells it.

I'm thinking that would be a complete waste of money because if you don't see the Atheros wifi card listed in the device manager (driver installed), or as a Network Controller in the device manager (driver not installed), then the wifi card is dead.

In the remote chance it is a W10 issue with the Atheros card, here is a way you can clean install W8.1 for free by using the W8 product key in the PC's BIOS.

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC...You want W8.1 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

At the beginning of the installation routine, you can delete every partition on there.

Only if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

If nothing works, the easiest thing to do would be to purchase an external USB wifi adapter.

They make some nano size ones nowadays that hardly stick out of the USB port.
