Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I've been fighting with what should be a simple install of Windows 7 on my laptop, but I've reached the end of my patience. What is the secret to installing Windows 7 drivers on a HP 2000 2b44dx notebook, most importantly the wifi?

Hi:

I see from the product specs page that your notebook came with W8.

I see a very incomplete set of W7 drivers on the support page for that model.

So...the secret to installing W7 successfully, is to know what model wifi card your notebook has, and what equivalent model HP 2000 notebook has a complete set of W7 drivers.

I happen to know the answer to both of those questions...

1. Your model has an Atheros Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n 1x1 WiFi adapter, and there is no W7 Atheros wifi driver on the support page for your notebook.

2. You can find all of the W7 drivers and software you need (except for the smbus controller driver) from the HP 2000z-2a00.  Do not use any of the BIOS or firmware files on your model.

I have zipped up and attached the driver you need for the smbus controller below.

To install the driver, download and unzip the file to its folder.  Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

Go to the device manager, and click on the smbus controller needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

Thank you for your help. Once the wifi adaptor was installed, I just ran Driver Booster. Much appreciated.
