HP 250 G4 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP 250 G4 Notebook battery no longer charges when it is switched on but charges normally when it is switched off.

Things I have tried:-

1.  Done a hard reset by unplugging the charger, removing the battery and holding down the power button for 30 seconds. Replaced the battery, plugged in the charger and switched on the notebook. This made no difference.

2.  In Device Manager -> Batteries, uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery device and rebooted the notebook. This also made no difference.

3.  Tried a charger from another HP 250 G4 Notebook. This again made no difference.

I have read that updating the BIOS might solve the problem. However, I am reluctant to do this because this requires the notebook to be on mains power and this might fail if the notebook is not being on charge.

Any help would be appreciated.

Took the laptop to a computer repair shop who diagnosed that the power connector in the laptop was faulty. This was replaced and everything works fine now.

The battery may need to be replaced. Have you run Diagnostics and tested the battery? Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and look for Component Tests.

Hi CherylG

Thanks for your reply.

Have run Diagnostics and tested the battery and the result came back as Battery OK.

Updating your BIOS may be the next option. Just be sure it is plugged in during the process.

Updating the BIOS is not an option as the laptop is not charging when switched on and updating the BIOS requires the laptop to be on mains power.
