HP 255 G7 : will not boot Windows
This laptop had a smashed screen, which I repaired by replacing the old one (1366×768) with a new one (1920×1080). Now it will not boot. The BIOS setting was reset to factory defaults. The laptop has 15.6" dispay, 16gb RAM (2×DDR4), a NVME SSD and no SATA SSD. It has "Ryzen 5" and "Radeon Vega graphics" stickers. So I presume that's the hardware.
Before I changed the display, it did boot to Windows (10 or 11), which I was able see by plugging in a HDMI to VGA cable and accessing it via an external monitor (which had no actual HMDI input). The battery was fully charged; yet held that charge for mere minutes. So it seems that will have to be fixed.
Now when I switch on I get:
---------------------------------------------------------
Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk
Hard Disk (3F0)
F2 System Diagnostics
---------------------------------------------------------
I went into "F2 System Diagnostics". Every test passed.
- Memory test (for 2 x 8 GB RAM). Passed
- HDD quick check. Passed
- HDD extensive check. Passed
---------------------------------------------------------
Current Version: 1.21.0.0 - BIOS
I don't fully understand the boot options as none say HDD, or SSD. Anyway. It seems to be trying to boot from the SSD but failing. The UEFI Boot Order is:
- OS boot Manager
- Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive
- USB CD/DVD ROOM Drive
- ! Network Adapter
Legacy support is disabled.
Should I try to enable "Legacy support", where the book order begins with:
- Notebook Hard Drive ?
The other 3 options are the same. Given it should have Win 10 or Win 11 installed, I can't see the point to that.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try reinstalling W10 or W11.
You can make a bootable USB installation flash drive with either the W10 or W11 media creation tools from the links below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
Leave the BIOS settings as they are:
With the Windows installation media in the USB port, turn on the PC.
Immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the EFI USB flash drive with the Windows installation files on it and press the Enter key.
After Windows has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from the support page.
