Hello,
my laptop powers up (fan on, light initial noises from HDD) but black screen, booting not starting. Capslock blinking twice. Seems like BIOS soft (or BIOS chip) corrupted, right?
I tried stepwisely procedure acc.
https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16
STEP1/2/3A all without succes
and now trying STEP 3B -> Recover the BIOS using a USB recovery drive
by creating recovery USB drive on another laptop via advised BIOS for HP 650s family laptops
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) | 10.0 MB | sp66781.exe |
recommended from official source:
https://support.hp.com/cz-cs/drivers/selfservice/hp-650-notebook-pc/5225011
Installation always failes either with opening immediate BIOS updater=utility INSYDEFLASH v.4.28 on running computer or with error IHISI: Get support mode fail in SMI/BIOS did not support INSYDEFLASH,
but never opens expected utility HP BIOS Update and Recovery by American Megatrends = it means never offers an option Create Recovery USB flash drive, which shall be the common way as described in HP tutorials (I tried more types HP as well as non-HP laptops for this preparation, with more systems W10/W8/W7- all same output).
Any idea, how to call up window BIOS Update and Recovery by American Megatrends?
Is there any way to prepare a bootable BIOS on a USBflash drive for an HP 650? Thx lot.

Hello @tommy-czech
Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.
To help you I just need to know the product number (p/n) xxxxxx#xxx of your notebook !
It looks something like this:
You will find this information on the back/rear of your notebook in small alphanumeric letters.
Kind regards

Hello @tommy-czech
This is old BIOS ...
(1) Power off computer
(2) Disconnect charger
(3) Press and hold <power> button for 30 seconds
(4) Connect charger
(5) You need another Windows 7 (32/64 bit) or Windows 8 (32/64 bit) computer to run Bios setup to create <USB flash drive>
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) |
F.39 Rev.A | 10.0 MB | Jun 20, 2014 | Download |
HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads
Follow --->>> BIOS Recovery Reinstall with USB
(6) Repeat reflash procedures:
- windows + b <USB flash drive> not connected
- windows + v <USB flash drive> not connected
- windows + b <USB flash drive> connected
- windows + v <USB flash drive> connected
Keep me updated
Kind regards

As described in my origin post, the linked file sp66781.exe consists of managing app INSYDE so during its installation just after extracting inicializes automaticly INSYDEFLASH app used for promt BIOS updates (instead of window HP BIOS Update and Recovery with option CREATE USB flash drive->this never appears) on laptops with 64bitOS, or IHISI: Get support mode fail in SMI/BIOS did not support INSYDEFLASH on laptops with 32bitOS.
INSYDEFLASH is incorporated in this EXE file, no matter what OS is used Windows 7 (32/64 bit) or Windows 8 (32/64 bit), same as WIN 10.
Never apears this window/option:

Hello @tommy-czech
InsydeFlash does not support the <USB> "feature" ...
(1) Start InsydeFlash and don't close application
(2) Look for the folder where InsydeFlash extracted temporary files
(3) Send screenshot of folder/files
