Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have installed the Win 10 spring creators update (1803). Since then, there is an error message saying that a base  system driver is missing. As a consequence, it is impossible to adjust the screen brightness (ie the brightnesss does't change when you try to).

hardware ID values are as follows:

PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_30DB103C&REV_14
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_30DB103C
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880

Can you please direct me to the correct driver for manual installation?

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

That device doesn't control the screen brightness.

You need this driver for the ID's you posted.

This package contains the Ricoh Media Card Reader Driver for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems. The Ricoh Media Card Reader driver provides support for the following media: Memory Stick, xD-Picture Card, MMC, SD, and SmartCard.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45112.exe

For the screen brightness issue, is it stuck on maximum?

What model graphics adapter does your notebook have?  AMD or Intel?

If AMD, you will need to manually install the W7 graphics driver in order for the graphics to work.

I will give you the instructions to do that once you let me know what graphics adapter your notebook came with.

You will know if you need the graphics driver if you click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category, you see a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.

If AMD, you need to see the Radeon HD 3450 and if Intel, you need to see an Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.

Hi Paul,

thank you for the quick reply.

The card reader driver did in fact fix the driver problem. In addition, I noticed a 2nd missing driver, which I could identify as the HP driveguard 3d in another post in the forum (also fixed).

Now, the device manager shows no more issues with missing drivers.

Re screen brightness: in most cases, the brightness is at the lowest level, which is disturing during the day. Now, after fixing the drivers, brightness is at the highest level. Whatever it is, I can't change it.

My notebook uses the Intel graphics driver:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_30DB103C&REV_07
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_30DB103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&CC_0300

Thanks again for helping!

You're very welcome.

W10 should have automatically installed the Intel graphics driver.

It does not install the AMD grpahics driver which is why I asked.

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to manually install the W7 Intel graphics driver from the support page.

Download and save, but do not run the graphics driver file below.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45573.exe

To manually install the driver, download and install this free file utility.

The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the Intel graphics driver you saved.

Select 7-Zip from the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  And let it extract the file into its folder name (sp45573).

After 7-zip creates the driver folder, go to the device manager.

Click on the Intel graphics adapter listed there (or the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter).

Click on the driver tab.   Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Then restart the PC and see if you can now adjust the screen brightness.

Hi, I have done as suggested and the new driver did install.

However this had no impact on my problem. Still, the brightness can't be adjusted, although I see the usual bar increasing/ decreasing when I apply fn and F9/F10.

One thing I noticed: if I turn on the ambient light sensor with fn+F11, it dims the light further down a bit (and vice versa). but directing the torch light of my mobile in front of the sensor makes the screen brightness go up visibly.  If only the level would be higher...

I suspect that this has to do with the spring creators update of windows - I got it a bit earlier being in the insider program, maybe there's a bug. Already reported that to MS as well.

Anyway, thanks for helping. If you have any other ideas, let me know.

You're very welcome.

Sorry that driver didn't fix the problem.

It will be interesting to see what happens to my 6930p with the Radeon HD 3450 graphics when the Spring Creators Update is released to the public.

I haven't gotten it yet.
