The Device Manager displays drivers and components (that) the Manager detects.

If the Device Manager does not detect a working camera, the result is the same as if the camera hardware is not physically installed.

Possible causes of "camera not found" can include and might be limited to:

• The device (computer) does not have a camera -- Not every computer comes with camera hardware.

• The camera is physically present but is not connected -- for example, the Wires that connect the camera might be broken, loose, crushed (for example, in the hinges of the laptop display).

• The camera is physically present and connected but is not functional -- for example, the camera itself is broken.

• The camera is physically present, connected, and should be functional but is switched OFF.  This is less likely to impact whether the Device Manager detects the hardware, but might be worth a look.  Sample Reference: 

   Camera not found on HP Spectre x360 or HP ENVY (0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAreAttached> or Black Screen)

• If checking for an IR camera type for the purpose of using the camera with Facial Recognition, the Device Manager will not list the IR camera if the computer does not have an IR type camera.   Reference:

Scroll down through the list to the next “computer name” entry

Left-Click (on the name) to expand the list
