HP Chromebook 11G6 EE
Chrome OS

Our district recently bought sever hundred of these models and we are now deploying them in the schools this past week.  Have have had many of these come up and say the the OS is misssing or randoming rebooting on them.  They have the latest OS and I have reinstalled the OS via a USB on two of them and so far one of them is still experiencing this problem. Just wanted to throw this out there so see if there are any known issues.

I'm having a similar issue. Out of 100 new G6's - about 10% are not booting afetr a month of use. I have been sending them back under warranty, they come back with a report syaing HP "Reseated Cables or Componants" and "Reinstalled OS"

Hope this was not a bad model..

We have about 400+ or so G6EE  ive noticed those in a cart do fine because they are receiving a constant charge. Those that go home are having a power issue because they aren't getting charged properly. Ive also noticed that when they die it's hard to bring them back. You have to wash the device with a new battery then replace the old and wash again for it to come on. Ive done some digging on here and someone said there is a fault in the systemboard which makes sense because it's not storing enough power for bootup. Were doing research into if there is an issue there at the board or with the chrome os version. Ive had to send back at least 20+ devices with these issues and they either replace the battery or the board.. this year we got the G6 A EE and I'm noticing the same issue with those as well. We're now out of warranty and the issue is still happening.

I’ve believe I have found a way around this issue without having to send it in. I work in IT for a schooling district that uses around 200-300 of the G6 and have had to fix this issue multiple times but its an easy fix.

What i did was the following if the charging LED wont work and it doesn’t turn on:

  • Take off the keyboard to reveal the internals
  • Unplug the battery
  • Plug the chromebook in using the USB-C charge
  • Wait for it to boot up using the charger and not the battery
  • Plug the battery back in
  • Let it charge

This should have fixed it, I’ve seen it also works with the G6A

If you have any questions or would like further assistance I would be more than happy to help as I’ve seen about every and we have never sent one chromebook in to HP to get it fixed.

Thank you for your reply, I will have to try this again. So far the only thing that works for us is using a spare battery to kind of jump-start the board.
