HP Chromebook 11a-na0000 (9TZ30AV)

As the title suggests, I purchased the 11a-na00 model chromebook from Officemax earlier yesterday. It was a display model so it was in demo mode. Fast forward 4 hours and none of the staff can manage to get it powerwashed so I can set my account up.

Was told if I made a bootable chrome repair thumbdrive that I could fix it myself, or bring it to some guy at some officemax in a different part of town. So I get home and spend all night screwing with it to get the thumbdrive to work. Turns out that even with the thumbdrive I have to have some RMA server unlock code. It shows a QR code and tells me that if I scan it i'll get an 8 digit code, of course if I scan it or go to the URL listed then it tells me I don't have security clearance or access to that, since my google account isn't part of the enterprise.  I can't even attempt to get ahold of office max like 6 more hours and it looks like you have to pay to use most of their tech support. I was hoping perhaps the manufacturer of the laptop might have some kind of solution for removing the enterprise lock so I can powerwash it. I already tried the ol ESC+F3+power deal and even the ESC+F2+POWER  and if I am lucky enough to get into recovery mode, CTR+D does nothing. All i can do is go forward in the process to the point it asks me who the user of the chromebook will be, and if I choose anything other than the current organization, it brings up the RMA server unlock screen which I have no ability to navigate since i'm not part of the organization.

Any tips that don't invovle taking the whole laptop apart?

Hi @StoryofAlex, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP Chromebook 11a-na0000 is enterprise enrolled, meaning it’s locked to the organization (in this case, OfficeMax). Powerwashing or using a ChromeOS recovery USB won’t help because enterprise enrollment persists through resets.

Here’s what you can do:

1. Contact OfficeMax

  • Since this was a display model, OfficeMax should have unenrolled it before selling it.
  • Call or visit the store and ask them to remove the enterprise enrollment.
  • They may need to log in with an admin account to deprovision it.

2. Check with Google Support

  • Google’s Enterprise Support can confirm whether the device is locked and who the admin is.
  • Go to Google Admin Help and explain the issue.
  • They won’t unlock it for you, but they may confirm if OfficeMax is the enrolled admin.

3. Request an RMA Unlock Code

  • If OfficeMax refuses to help, they (or their IT department) might need to generate an unlock code.
  • Only the organization that enrolled the Chromebook can do this.

4. Return It

  • If OfficeMax won’t unlock it, you should request a refund or replacement.
  • A locked device is unusable without enterprise removal.

There’s no bypass for enterprise enrollment without the admin credentials, and removing it manually would require motherboard modifications, which isn’t practical.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
