Hi,
My HP Chromebook does not start. I pressed power button for three seconds and word "chrome" flashed as if it was going to start as usual but it did'nt. I pressed start button longer and waited and again longer and waited (max 20sec) for few times but nothing happened. There is no "loading-light" on the sides of the device as there usually is. It seems to be totally dead and not responding either to pressing reload+start. Can somebody help and tell me what to do? Is this device gone?

Hi @Karoliina644,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Chromebook might be facing a hardware issue or a problem with its power system. Here are some steps you can try to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.
Check the Power Adapter and Battery
- Inspect the Charger: Ensure that the charger is properly connected and working. Try using another charger compatible with your Chromebook to rule out a faulty power adapter.
- Test the Outlet: Verify that the power outlet you’re using is functional by plugging in another device.
- Hard Reset with Charger Connected:
- Plug in the Chromebook to a power source.
- Hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Release and try turning it on again.
Perform a Hard Reset
This can reset the hardware and resolve minor glitches.
- Press and hold the Refresh key (a circular arrow, usually located above the numbers).
- While holding the Refresh key, press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds.
- Release both keys and see if the Chromebook powers on.
Check for Battery Indicator
- Plug in your Chromebook and leave it charging for at least 30 minutes.
- Look for any blinking lights on the side or near the charging port.
- No lights? This could indicate a battery or power circuitry issue.
Try Recovery Mode
If the Chromebook is partially responsive but not booting:
- Press and hold Esc + Refresh and then tap the Power button.
- Release all the keys.
- If a recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions to restore your Chromebook.
Inspect for Physical Issues
- Check the Battery Connections: If you're comfortable and the Chromebook allows battery removal, ensure the battery is securely connected to the motherboard.
- Look for Damage: Inspect the charging port and power button for physical damage.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
