My HP Chromebook x360 - 14c-ca0053dx suddenly stopped working. Now only a window shows that says "Chrome OS is missing or damaged". I researched this error and created a recovery USB and SD card using Chromebook Recovery Utility multiple times, however, neither of them ever worked. Instead, I always get a message that says "The device you inserted does not contain Chrome OS." From what I've read, it seems like this should be a simple fix.
Can you please help?

I have the same model and received the same "Chrome OS is missing or damaged" message today after a few days of "Aw Snap" chrome crashes. Recovery attempts with a USB and SD card both failed with: "Error recovering your device" despite the machine detecting the recovery drive and the process running for about 10 minutes. What are the chances this is a hardware issue? Has anyone had any luck recovering the 14c? Looking around Google, there's a few anecdotes about failed recovery but no success stories. That's disappointing for a (more expensive than normal) Chromebook I've only owned two years (1 year to the day post warranty). Thanks.

The more time that passes without a response from HP, the more I'm thinking this is a hardware issue. I reached out to them on Twitter as well, several days ago, and got a response. However, after giving them the information they asked for: name, email, serial number of my Chromebook, they've since gone silent. Perhaps because I'm out of warranty. It looks like we may have chosen poorly in buying an HP device.

Can you please help. I can't find anyone to contact at HP. I can't get the Chrome Recovery Utility media to work on my computer. No matter how many different ones I create, it always says it does not contain Chrome OS.
Please help.
Thanks

I've tried everyting to get this 14c recovered. Nothing seems to work. Built recovery media for the 14c as well as 20 other models hoping to solve this puzzle. Frustrated, as the only HP advice I received was to change the 64gb HD which I did and it still can't see the recovery media. I'm understanding that this is 100% a hardware issue and that HP support came here on this thread and gave the guy the solution but I can't seem to figure out what they sent him. That link doesn't work anymore. Anyone? I've been trying to recover this thing for almost a solid week. I've exausted all my efforts, if anyone has any ideas please let me know as this chromebook is dead in the water. Thanks HP...
