The title speaks for itself. The HP Cloud Recovery Tool downloaded from the Microsoft Store bugs out when it asks for a Product ID. The HP website registers my Product ID as an HP Elitebook 840 G6, but HP Cloud Recovery registers it as invalid. I know my warranty has expired, could that have something to do with it? Do I need to downgrade back to Windows 10 to get the app functioning?

The reason the cloud recovery tool doesn't work for your notebook is that you are using the wrong version of the software.

The version that you are using is for HP consumer class PC's and you need to use the HP cloud recovery client software that is used for most HP business class PC's.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility:

The software is found on the support pages of PC's the cloud recovery client works on.

Now the software lets me pass that screen, but it doesn't see my USB drive.  It is definitely over 32GB (it's a 1TB USB drive with an SSD), and I formatted with both exFAT and NTFS. This is the only USB drive I have.

I wouldn't be able to help you with any issues you encounter with the software.

If you don't want to buy a different model/brand USB flash drive, my recommendation would be to use the Microsoft media creation tool to make a bootable USB W10 installation flash drive.

You only need an 8 GB flash drive for this.

Download Windows 10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
