Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

Trying to create a recovery disk that I can use to factory-reset this old laptop before donation.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool does not recognize this 8th gen Core i5 laptop.

(It recognizes my newer 11th gen Core i5 laptop).

The reason the cloud recovery tool no longer works for your PC is because HP withdraws support for the cloud recovery tool once the PC reaches 5 years of age.

 

You can clean install W10 or W11 on the PC by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool's from the links below, as applicable.

 

Download Windows 10

 

Download Windows 11

 

My recommendation would be to set up a local account with some generic username and then you can install the drivers and available software from the support page.
