Hi @Erica108
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your computer might be displaying incorrect fonts or symbols due to a language or encoding issue.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve this:
1. Check Language Settings
Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
Ensure the correct language is set as the default.
If needed, add the correct language and remove any unnecessary ones.
2. Update Fonts
Missing or corrupted fonts can cause this issue. Update your system fonts by installing the latest Windows updates:
Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
3. Change Display Language
If the issue persists, try changing the display language temporarily and then switch back to your preferred language:
Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
Add a new language, set it as default, and restart your computer. Then switch back to your original language.
4. Check for Corrupted System Files
Run the System File Checker tool to repair any corrupted files:
Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type:
cmd
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and let the scan complete.
5. Reinstall Display Drivers
Outdated or corrupted display drivers might also cause this issue:
Open Device Manager.
Expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics driver, and select Update driver.
6. Reset Regional Settings
Go to Settings > Time & Language > Region and ensure the correct region is selected.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
