Looking for Windows 7 drivers for this older laptop.
It's labeled a "Pavillion dv6" but the actual model number from the battery dock is LW268UA#ABA
HP Identifies that model as a
HP Pavilion dv6-6108us Entertainment Notebook PC
It did the win 10 upgrade - but that killed the wifi adapter.
So it was reformatted and Windows 7 reloaded.
But now I can't find any WQindows 7 drivers for it.
Seems HP has taken them down.
Have looked all over this site and found a few but not all of them.
I don;t care about the internal wifi now, I have a USB one - but the USB ports are not loaded.
any help would be great here, otherwise this thing is basically a baot anchor
looking to give this to a student who just wants to use MS Word on it.
Thanks

Hi:
HP does not include the chipset/USB drivers for their AMD chipset based notebooks.
You need these usb drivers...Download and install the 1st driver on the list from the link below and then restart the PC.
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy4&os=Windows%207%20-%2032
You need this wireless card driver according to the parts list...
This package contains the driver installation package for the Ralink Wireless LAN Controllers in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.
File name: sp54127.exe

Did you see my reply above yours with the links to the USB and wireless drivers?
You won't be able to use the support page until the internet explorer browser is updated to 10 or 11.
Otherwise you can download a different browser for now such as Chrome.

Thanks that AMD Utility helps a lot, it loads the Graphics and some chipsets and some USB drivers.
For the Audio I went out and found sp52658 - IDT Hi Def Audio and that worked.
I also loaded sp53619 which was another AMD USB 3.0 driver
The last device that it's detecting that I can't find a driver seems to id itself as the fingerprint reader. I'm not using it so not important but no searches have turned that up using the hardware ID.
Now tha RALINK wifi - that is what stated this whole issue. It's GARBAGE!
It worked fine for YEARS until this system got upgraded to Win 10 then it ceased to function after some win 10 update. It's now stuck on Amber light. I pulled it and tried to insert a new PCIE WiFI card and the system detects that on start up and won't boot. Calls it unsupported and won't run. Tried 4 or 5 other cards and all end up the same. Pretty lame.
I have tried sp54127 and that looks like it's installing but never completes.
I tried sp57538 and that does the same thing.
I tried sp66089 and that does the same thing.
Either that card is dead or I still don't have the right driver.
The card itself is labeled RALINK RT5390
searching for that ponts me to
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_131223_1
which is the sp66089 - and that starts the install but never completes.
I'm stuck trying to use a USB wifi adapter now, which seems unecessary if the laptop has internal wifi.....
Big thanks for the help tho, it's almost there!

You're very welcome.
Here is the fingerprint sensor driver...
This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications.
File name: sp55109.exe
HP had those BIOS whitelists back in those days which prevented any wlan card not listed in the service manual from working.
You would have to get one of the cards listed for amd notebooks in the service manual and it must have the HP Part number on it or it won't work.
I used to get cards like that in used but tested and working condition on eBay by querying by the part number and then making sure I saw the part number on the white sticker in the photograph of the wlan card listing.
Try this Ralink wireless card driver, and try manually installing it if the auto install doesn't work.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59828.exe
To manually install the driver, go to the device manager, click on the device listed as a Network Controller (what the wireless card is named when it doesn't have a driver), click on the driver tab, click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the driver.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp59828.
Make sure the include subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.
Then restart the PC.

Thanks again, you are johnny on the spot with these drivers. I've got pretty much a full working system-
except for that WiFi card.......
That setup/install still fails.
I tried to do it manually but it's not listed under Device Mangler anywhere. I only see the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller listed there and that is the ethernet card. Don't even see it if i try to list by connection or other options - it's not getting detected by the OS.
I think the card is DOA which is why it's got the amber light and I can't load any driver, etc....
I put a USB wifi adpater in there and it's working great.
I wish HP would just keep basic almost plain text web archives of these files and links and get away from web pages that are customized based on your browser. Should be able to input a moidel number and have access to all the drivers and manuals whenever needed - today or 20 years from now.
I'm a classic car hobbyist and I've been saved by many a wiring diagram or some age old manual. You never know when someone will need it or want to say reload a prefectably usable laptop and needs drivers. The only reason to do that is to stop someone from using it, which is lame.
People still love old cars and use old laptops - HP should think of that as a testament to building a solid peice of technology that lasts - unless you are trying to make them buy new stuff.
Thanks again, without your help i'd be spining in circles still! :catvery-happy:

Anytime.
Before you confirm the card dead...install this software, restart the PC and see if you can turn on the wireless by using this software.
If that fails to get the job done, then the card is defintely dead.
This package provides the HP Connection Manager for the supported notebook running a supported operating system.
File name: sp53394.exe
I agree with you. I like the old way HP had the support pages set up.
I complained about it but was told it is what it is.
The business PC support pages are not set up that way. You can select any supported operating system for that model to get the drivers.
