Hi @Hanazo12

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for the clear photo and detailed description — you're in a critical firmware update freeze situation, and I completely understand how serious and alarming this is.

The screen you're stuck on — HP Device Firmware Recovery (ME Firmware update) — normally completes quickly, but a freeze like this, especially with no response to key commands or power button, means the system is stuck in a low-level firmware loop, possibly bricked at the Intel Management Engine (ME) level.

Let’s go through safe and strategic recovery steps.

Do NOT Force Power Off Repeatedly Yet

If the system is stuck writing to the firmware and loses power during that, it may corrupt the BIOS chip completely. Since you've already attempted a few restarts without success, proceed carefully.

Step-by-Step Recovery Attempts

1. Try a Forced Power Reset (Hard Shutdown)

If your device is entirely unresponsive:

For devices with an internal battery:

Press and hold the Power button for at least 15–20 seconds continuously.

If it still doesn’t power down, try this again while pressing both Power + Mute or Power + Volume Down (depending on your model).

If holding the button doesn't shut the system off, let the battery fully drain — this can take several hours.

2. Once Powered Off – Initiate BIOS Recovery

After the device shuts down (either manually or after battery drain):

Initiate BIOS Recovery Mode:

Press and hold Windows key + B or Windows key + V

While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–5 seconds, then release only the power button

Continue holding Win + B/V for another 10–15 seconds

If successful, the screen may go black and then show the BIOS Recovery menu

Try both combinations: Win + B and Win + V, depending on the model.

3. If BIOS Recovery Doesn’t Work

If even BIOS recovery won’t load:

You have two options:

Let the battery completely drain (if you haven't already), then retry BIOS recovery once it's powered off.

Use HP BIOS Recovery USB method:

From another working PC, download the BIOS recovery tool for your specific model

Create a BIOS recovery USB

Insert into the non-working laptop

Retry Win + B with USB inserted

I can guide you through creating that USB if you're able to access another PC.

If it powers off eventually, don’t rush. Wait a minute, then re-attempt BIOS recovery.

Just let me know. I’m here to help you through the next safest step.
