Hi

I would like to know if Kingston HyperX Impact HX432S20IB2K2/16 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM would work in this laptop as an upgrade? I realise it’s a higher Mhz rating than listed in the laptop spec (3200, not 2400mhz), but my understanding is that it will work and just run at the lower speed?

Thanks

@DrScottArthur,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,

According to the product specifications, I see you have 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB) Memory Installed on your PC.

Here's the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook, this shows the parts which are listed here are the ones which are tested and compatible on your PC.

Chapter 1 Product description - Page number 1.

Chapter 3. Illustrated parts catalog - Page number - 15 for the spare part numbers.

Answering to your question regarding - Kingston HyperX Impact HX432S20IB2K2/16 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM would work in this laptop as an upgrade?This part has not been tested on this PC. If you wish to try this part, you can try it at your own discretion. However, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance. You can change the configuration at your own risk

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Does this mean I can not upgrade the RAM on the computer at all without voiding my warranty?

According to the maintenance and service guide, the compatible RAM is anything that is dd4 sodimm 2400mhz?

Thanks

@DrScottArthur,

You may go ahead and upgrade the RAM, it should not create any issues. Just in case if you need to send in the unit for repair, that is when you're suppose to go ahead and remove any third party parts and send the unit just with the original parts that were shipped with the PC.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.

Thank you and have a wonderful week ahead 😊

Thanks for this. I’ve only had the unit a couple of days. The two rubber sticky strips underneath the unit that the laptop sits on have come unstuck. I think the adhesive wasn’t applied properly. If this is a spare part and as the unit is still under warranty where do I go to request that the part is sent to me? Thanks

Hi, thanks for your reply. It states in the service guide that the laptop will take up to 2666mhz ddr4 (2x8gb). It comes installed with 2400mhz 2x4gb. If I were to upgrade it to 2666mhz ram would it run at this speed, or would it run at 2400mhz? Thanks.
