Hi guys ,
a shot while ago I bought a $2800 HP ENVY Laptop 16-h1090nd (833J7EA) and I have been having trouble with it sins day 1 .
HP support does not want to take the laptop in so I need to fix the problem my self .
I hope you guys can brain storm along side with me.
Let me summarize the problems I'm experiencing .
The HP ENVY will go in to sleep mode, turn off the screen and cooling fans.
After that , it will start processing with the fans off.
The laptop will heat up to 80 deg. Celsius (176 Fahrenheit) .
So hot that you cant lift it and it wont turn on .
Because it wont turn on , the fans won't turn on and it keeps heating it self.
Other laptops have a physical temperature safety switch ... but this one keeps going.
Lucky the battery is damaged from all the overheating so it will only do this for 30 minutes before the power is drained.
What I usually do is , I hold down the power button until the power is off.
Then to cool it I have to connect a vacuum to it for 5 minutes.
After this I can turn on the laptop and the fans will work again.
From here I can use my laptop as normal .. until it goes in to sleep-mode and this issue starts all over again.
When ever the laptops goes to sleep, the screen will go black .
When I move the cursor the screen will light up, and show a black screen with a white cursor.
Sometimes the cursor moves , sometimes it does not .
From this point on , there is noting I can do but hold down the power button to reboot.
I tried playing with the battery settings / power and sleep plans / min,max processor throttle , Wake-up/ linkstate power management / adding System cooling policy / installing HP command center / update the BIOS , intel, synaptic firmware /reinstalling windows 11 , but noting helps.
Even with sleep turned off when plugged it, the laptop screen will turn off after 5 minutes and the laptop will be processing like crazy. If I leave it like this for a while the screen will stay black with a white cursor. There is nothing you can do accept hold down the power button again and corrupting my files.
It seems windows 11 made a special insomnia mode for the HP Envy.
I would love to hear your ideas!
Please post anything that comes to mind and I will try it.
I will post the results here to help out people with the same problem.
Anything is better than selling it for parts.
Thanks in advanced!
Regards, Joost
