Howdy peeps.
I tend to try to fix stuff, and my bro gave me his old laptop so I might be able to fix it up and pass it on to someone in need. However he doesn't have any of the documentation for windows 10 key and nuked the drive including the windows recovery partitions before he passed it on. Any chance of getting another copy of the windows key from the serial number for the device or should I just toss a copy of linux mint on it?
Cheers~

Hi:
Starting with all PC's that come with W8 or newer, Microsoft requires all PC manufacturers to put the Windows product key in the BIOS.
You don't need it to reinstall W10.
Make a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive using another Windows PC, and the media creation tool at the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I dont have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from the support page.

If the notebook came with W10, and not W8.1 as some earlier models did, you can also use the cloud recovery tool to make a bootable recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook.
I have attached the instructions below for how to use the cloud recovery tool.
This package provides the Cloud Recovery Client for supported models running a supported operating system. This Client Utility enables users to download the Recovery Kit from the cloud.

Thanks, I think that would have solved it, but I guess the ssd is toast as well. I tried to reinstall windows 10, which failed because of some incompatability with mbr, gpt, and uefi. Tried reformating or changing partition stuff to no avail. They all failed before completion two times so I guess it's just borked.
I guess since it's in the BIOS I could swap over to a new ssd then go from there? It works fine besides that. The keypad/trackpad attachment wasn't working but I figure there's some driver that needs installed and since the ssd is not workin' they can't communicate.
When I get a new ssd I'll update and let ya know.
Thanks so much, and stay safe out there!
Cheers~

You're very welcome.
While you are waiting for the SSD to arrive, see if you can get W10 to install in EFI mode by using the diskpart command>clean disk to install W10.

I gave it a try and it worked a treat. Thanks!
Now that it's up and running, there is another two issues however.
One is a flashing power led "code" thing - but I can't find any record for the pattern I am seeing: One long amber, then 3 times short alternating amber and white.
Second, the magnetic travel keyboard thing isn't being detected. I've tried the few things I've found - running updates and pressing power button for 30 secs after shutting down. Could be a broken flex cable going to the port - I don't have any other accessories to test it though.
Also a bit of an oddity that I don't know is part of either of these, but when it first boots there is a small white box in the lower right with two lines of four dots. I'm not really that familiar with windows 10 so this could be normal?
Thanks again, as it is it's a working tablet. Very nice!
Cheers~

You're very welcome.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what to do about those issues.
I don't know where to find the blink codes for business class notebooks.
The only code table I can find is the one illustrated below.
I suggest that you start a new topic on all of those problems.

Hi:
I believe that I have found the blink code table you need for your PC:
