Hello HP Community,

I’m seeking advice on whether my HP EliteBook 840 G6 motherboard can still be repaired, or if I should consider replacing it — or even just scrapping the laptop altogether.

 Background:

The laptop suffered water damage 3 days ago and I immediately took help to prevent corrosion. It was on sleep during that time.

 Current Symptoms:

I recently attempted to revive it and here's what I observed.

  • No display at all
  •
  • Fan spins, power button responds, and CPU area warms up.
  • Caps Lock blinks 5 times (when turned on)
  • Continuous beep from the speaker occurs if RAM is removed.
  • Specific component like1R0 2031 heats up on power-up.
  • No visible burns or corrosion on the motherboard — looks clean, but I know water can cause hidden damage.

Question

Based on these signs and known HP power rail behavior, is the board still repairable?

Or is it more practical to replace the board entirely?

Given the water exposure and no display, is it even worth investing in this unit — or should I sell it for parts and move on?

Any guidance from HP staff, experienced repairers, or others who’ve revived water-damaged EliteBooks would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
