Elitebook 840 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an Elitebook 840 G5 with TPM 1.2 and want to upgrade to TPM 2.0. Most of this machines were delivered with TPM 2.0, but for whatever reason HP decided to ship the setup (3ZG04ES#ABD without OS/Windows) with TPM 1.2. Now that for Windows 11 there is the requirement of TPM 2.0 I went on search. There is an official upgrade tool TPM 1.2 -> 2.0 but G5 of the Elitebook 840 isn't supported ( see HP Desktops, Notebooks, and Workstations - HP TPM Configuration Utility With Windows 10 Anniversary ...). As the specs explicitly  show: HP EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC Specifications | HP® Customer Support ... there is a TPM 2.0 for this machine. On the support download page HP EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC Software- und Treiber-Downloads | HP® Kundensupport there is no TPM upgrade either.

Can anybody help me or give me a hint, where to search further?

FINALLY! Found a way :

Update HP TPM Firmware 1.2 to 2.0 using SCCM and HP TPM Configuration Utility (danielengberg.com) showed me the way. Via HP Image Assistant https://ftp.ext.hp.com//pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HPIA.html I was able to find the right TPM Upgrade Tool. It is https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87501-88000/sp87753.exe ... the package where Elitebook 840 G5 on the infopage was not mentioned. In the softwarepackage this system is listed as compatible ... what a ride 😄 Nevertheless ... maybe it helps someone else too!

@Dexterian

My machine has TPM 2.0, I thought they are all the same. Please try new BIOS dated May 12, 2021

As said above: I already got the newest bios prior ... and it didn't upgrade TPM to 2.0. After upgrading the TPM separately it works just fine an the Windows 11 Health Tool says "Everything ready for Windows 11".
