HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

HP Envy7640 all in one printer won't print. Error: Out of paper.  First my printer is in my bedroom where I use baby powder. I used my hair dry to blow out the inside to remove any powder. I cleaned the inside rollers with a slightly damp cotton pad. Black ink came off the rollers. I took out the paper and reloaded, I removed and reinstalled the printer, turned the printed off and unplugged it overnight. I have cancelled all the print jobs. I tried printing over and over. same error: out of paper.   Hopefully someone can help me.

@Cockatiel, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Paper Feed Path

Ensure no paper is jammed inside the printer. Check both the input tray and output tray for any stuck paper.

Open the cartridge access door and gently remove any paper or debris inside.

Clean the Paper Rollers Again

If you used baby powder near the printer, it could have left residue on the rollers.

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Use a clean slightly damp cloth (no baby powder) to wipe down the rollers carefully.

Avoid getting too much moisture near the rollers to prevent them from slipping.

Re-align the Paper in the Tray

Remove all paper from the tray.

Fan the paper stack to prevent any sheets from sticking together and causing feed issues.

Place the paper neatly into the input tray, aligning it with the paper guides. Make sure the paper is not overfilled, leaving enough space for the tray to move freely.

Check the Paper Sensor

The printer may be unable to detect the paper properly if the sensor is dirty.

Gently wipe around the paper feed path using a dry cloth or cotton swab to clean the sensor areas.

The sensor is often located near where the paper enters the printer and along the paper tray.

Reset Printer

Turn off the printer.

Unplug it from the power source.

Wait for 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and power on.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
