After upgradeing to the terrible Windows 10 sytem my computer HDD is misidentified as a solid state hard drive. This gives me the message that i cannot optimise it.
Microsoft support refuses to help in this problem which many people have. I have not found a fix for this yet after working on it for days.
One website says :Run WinSat formal in elevated command prompt and it rescans the disks and resets the disk back to normal disk drive
I don't know how to do that because , : "There are no command line parameters available for use with the formal assessment"
so any ideas on now to fix this?

Hi:
A lot of those Envy notebooks have the hybrid drives with the SSD cache, which if your notebook has one of those, is why W10 thinks the whole drive is a SSD.
If you had been defragging the drive in the past with no adverse affects to the drive, then the only suggestion I can offer would be to use a 3rd party defragmenting tool such as the free Auslogics disk defrag.

Hi,
Actually it is not a good idea to defrag SSD's reason SSD's don't use physical dics, don't have heads, data and files are allocated using optimized vendors's firmware (vary from vendor to vendor). Many SSD's support TRIM:

Trying to defrag SSD's would kill SSD's quicker.
Regards.

I believe you are correct on this, which i had forgotten, that it does have a SSD cashe, so that awful Windows 10 thinks the primary drive is a solid state drive.
Too many problems with Windows 10 in my opinion. I constantly have problems restarting the system after software up grades and many other things. It just doesn't work well and one can spend hours and hours fooling with it.
I had already downloaded an other defragger, this one from Piriform who also makes CCleaner and it works well.
Anyway thanks for the idea of the SSD cashe causing the problem.
