I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Envy X360 and the option not working in Tent mode. This function will be disabled in Tent mode. Only in Tablet mode.
Thanks.
As I am reading through this posts for the first time, let me comment that this answer was non-sensical. Re-read the question. There is no tent mode in the settings. The screen either rotates or it does not.

@Chuck8 wrote:You need to put the computer in TABLET mode! In the bottom right corner of the screen net to the time/date there is a box with lines. select this then select tablet mode. This should allow the screen to rotate!
In the bottom right corner [system tray area], my own rotation selection is greyed out as if not an option. There is no tent or tablet mode (exception to disabbling the touchpad and keyboard), just rotating or not. Mine is not.

Go to: Control Panel - Appearance and Personalizatin - Display - Screen Rotation
Put a check next to "Allow screen to auto-rotate"
Click: Apply
And as I indicated to an earlier response, the "Allow screen to auto-rotate" option is greyed out. Anyone else experiencing similar situation? I've had laptop for less than 4 days and I have already reset to factory settings once (a verrry long process.) will return and look elsewhrere if no solution within the week. I am hoping it is something stupid on my part because I do rather like this laptop.

Hey, so I had a similar issue where it just stopped rotating and it wouldn't auto switch into tablet mode either. It took a lot to figure it out, but try this.
1. Open the device manager
2. Expand the "System Devices" tray
3. Right click on "Intel(R) Intergated Sensor Solution) and select properties.
4. Under the driver tab, click rollback driver
5. Try it now!

Ok, I bought an HP Envy 360, I7, 16 GB Ram, 1TB Drive last Saturday. Screen Rotation Lock icon was greyed and the screen would not rotate in any position. I restored Windows to scratch, reinstalled everything and still no luck. I contacted HP support. They asked if I had restored windows to which I said yes. They immediately said they would send me a box to return the laptop to replace the Intel Video Card.
I said no, I would rather just take it back to Sams Club who allows Laptop returns for up to 6 months after purchase.
Later yesterday after tech call to HP, I decided to UNISTALL the Video Card Driver. I UNINSTALLED it and then rebooted. Windows started the Laptop with a generic Microsoft Video Driver. Touch Screen Worked but Rotation did not work. I then tried to reinstall a driver from the Web. It took forever. I left it running all night and in the morning, it was done had restarted the laptop and the rotation was working. But it will only work if you switch to Tablet Mode. Make certain to go to Display setting and set the laptop mode to Landscape view.
Try this solution. All other 12 or so solutions I found and tried in this forum did not work.
There is not problem with the Intel Video Card. Restoring Windows only reinstalls the original driver that is in the HD. I tried searching for a new driver but results said I had the latest driver. I assume the new driver online is posted with the same revision level number so the driver search does not see the new version as a new revision level.
Happy rotating to all.

Biko1,
Sorry, after posting the last message, I had more severe problems which rendered the laptop useless. I took it my IT department who got it working again but it repeated the same problem 3X after 3X visit to them.
Basically, upon bootup, it would stall at a blank window, reinstall Bios software and hang.
Not at all worth the effort to make it work, I returned it to Sams Club, got a prompt refund then ordered a Dell Inspiron I5 7000 series with SD Hard Drive and HD Screen.
This machine is amazing for only $100 more and it works better than any other laptop I have seen (I have tried many many recent laptops).
The body design is solid. All Aluminum, the cooling fan has zero noise or never turns on and there are no hot spots anywhere on the whole laptop body. Amazing display resolution.
Sorry but I am done with HP after having been loyal for the last 12 years to them.
