Hi there,

Can you please advise if it is possible to upgrade my internal hard drive C as it is running very low on storage?

If so, can you please advise how and where to purchase the new product.

I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,

Annaliza

Hi, Annaliza:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP ENVY x360 Convertible PC

Chapter 1 has the drive types and configurations.

You have a few options:

1. Purchase an external 4 TB portable hard drive and archive the files you don't use all the time, such as photos and whatnot on the portable hard drive for storage.  A 4 TB drive will be able to hold a great deal of files and you can free up space on your already pretty large capacity 1 TB drive.

Something like this...

WD 4 TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessori...

2. Replace the 1 TB mechanical hard drive and purchase a 2 TB SATA solid state drive and increase your notebook storage and performance.

Something like this:

WD Blue 2TB 2.5" SATA SSD with up to 560MB/s read speed : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

3. Your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports NVMe SSD's which provides the fastest drive speeds available today.

Purchase a 1 TB NVMe SSD and use that as the boot drive and use the 1 TB mechanical hard drive for storage.

Plus, you will have a good deal of additional storage on the 1 TB NVMe SSD.

Something like this:

Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 (up to 3.500 MB/s) NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V8V1T0BW)...

If you go with the 3rd option, you will need to remove Windows from the existing hard drive.

Hi Paul,

I have another query, please.

My laptop currently has only 8GB RAM. What is the maximum RAM this laptop supports?

I am doing a MSc in Data Analytics and this coming semester we have a "Big Data module" and loads of machine learning processing.

Currently, I experienced downloading an Anacondas program and it took me more than one hour to finish the installation (normally 10-15 mins). What do you recommend, please?

Also, we do a lot of visualisation - do you suggest having GPU?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Anna Liza

Hi, Anna Liza:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates you can install up to 2 x 8 GB of memory in your notebook.

You cannot add a GPU to the PC as the graphics are an integral part of the motherboard.

Your notebook already comes with a discrete NVIDIA® GeForce® MX150 (with 4 GB GDDR5 dedicated memory).

That was top of the line when you bought the notebook.

This would be a recommended 8 GB memory chip for your notebook:

Crucial 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA266 | Crucial.com

You can buy it from Crucial.EU

Crucial 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA266 | Crucial EU

The Crucial memory report for your notebook indicates it can support 2 x 16 GB of memory.

HP - Compaq ENVY x360 15-cn0003na | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com

If you want to go with 2 x 16 GB of memory, you would want this kit:

Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM | CT2K16G4SFRA266 | Crucial EU

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Paul
