HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ds1063cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy x360 15-ds1063dl usually freezes or glitches or black out or just restart after a few hours of light use, or just a few minutes of gaming, with only way to get around is doing a hard restart. I tried reinstalling drivers, did a clean install of Windows, replacing SSD, limiting CPU clock... nothing works. I did tried Windows Memory Diagnostic and HP Hardware Diagnostic, all passed. Disabling BitLocker and NPO just extends the time usage, but I want to get the real problem fixed. There was just one rare time that it gives a BSOD with error code 0x00000101, the error occurred on ntoskrnl.exe, saying "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval". I got too frustrated and clean installed the laptop, without remembering to backup the minidump, and now it hasn't shown any BSOD, but still freezes or restarts. Please help me on

Hi @FiveWings,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with a persistent and challenging hardware or low-level software issue on your HP ENVY x360 15-ds1063cl. The rare Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the error code 0x00000101 ("A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval") indicates a potential issue with the CPU, possibly related to overheating, power delivery, or driver issues.

Since you've already tried several steps like reinstalling drivers, clean installing Windows, replacing the SSD, and limiting the CPU clock without success, let's approach the problem systematically.

Steps to Diagnose and Fix the Issue:

Check for Overheating Issues

  • Thermal throttling could cause freezing and restarts. Use software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to check your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming or under load.
  • If temperatures are high (above 90°C), consider cleaning your laptop’s cooling system (fans and vents) or repasting the CPU with thermal paste. You could also use a cooling pad.

Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

  • Visit the HP support page for your device and check for any available BIOS updates or chipset drivers. Sometimes these updates contain fixes for issues like yours, especially for power management or CPU handling.
  • Updating the BIOS may resolve conflicts between Windows and your hardware, especially if the issue is related to power state transitions or clock handling.

Disable Fast Startup in Windows

  • Fast Startup can cause issues with hardware initialization. To disable it:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
    2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
    3. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    4. Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
    5. Save changes and restart the laptop.

Use Intel/AMD Power Plans

  • If you're using a high-performance power plan, switch to the Balanced or manufacturer-supplied power plan to ensure the CPU doesn't stay at max frequencies, reducing the likelihood of overheating or power delivery issues.

Run Windows Driver Verifier

  • This tool helps identify problematic drivers that might be causing the freezing or glitches:
    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. Type verifier and press Enter.
    3. Choose Create Standard Settings, and then select Automatically select unsigned drivers and Automatically select drivers built for older versions of Windows.
    4. Reboot your system and use the computer as normal. If it crashes, it should provide information on the driver causing the issue.
    5. To disable Driver Verifier, type verifier /reset in Command Prompt and reboot.

Test with a Lower Performance Mode (Throttling)

  • It might help to manually throttle your CPU to run at a lower performance level:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
    2. Under Processor power management, reduce the Maximum processor state to 99%.
    3. See if this reduces the frequency of freezes or crashes.

Examine Event Viewer for Critical Errors

  • Go to Event Viewer (Windows Key + X, then select Event Viewer) and check the System logs for critical errors that occurred around the time of freezes or glitches. Look for entries that indicate hardware issues, power problems, or system crashes.

Check SSD Firmware

  • Ensure your SSD has the latest firmware from the manufacturer. An outdated SSD firmware could cause freezing or random restarts.

Test RAM Modules (Again)

  • Even though your RAM passed Windows Memory Diagnostic, it's not foolproof. Try testing each RAM stick individually by removing one and running the system with the other. If the issue persists, swap them and test again.

I hope this helps.
