Hello all,

I have a HP Spectre Folio(don’t judge me)

for the past few months, every time I went into my laptop I’d have to enter my recovery key. I’ve just gone to switch on and it started up as usual and then said it was preforming a BIOS Update/Recovery and then the whole screen glitches and switches off. I’ve tried to restart 5 times and the same thing keeps happening. Please help

Hi @CassidyDayle,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating this must be, and don’t worry, there’s nothing to be judged here. Let’s try a few steps to get your Spectre Folio working again.

a. Perform a Hard Reset

Disconnect the charger and all external devices.

Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to fully drain residual power.

Plug the charger back in and try turning the laptop on again.

b. Trigger BIOS Recovery Manually
Since it keeps getting stuck during BIOS recovery, try this:

Turn the laptop off.

Press and hold Windows + B (or Windows + V) and then press the Power button.

Keep holding Windows + B/V for around 5–10 seconds.

If successful, you should see the HP BIOS Recovery screen.

c. Use USB BIOS Recovery (if the recovery screen appears)

On another working PC, go to the HP Support website.

Search for your Spectre Folio model and download the latest BIOS update.

Use HP’s utility to create a BIOS recovery USB drive.

Insert the USB into your Folio and follow the steps on-screen to complete the recovery.

d. If You Were Being Asked for the BitLocker Recovery Key Frequently

Enter BIOS by pressing Esc or F10 when turning it on.

Go to Security → TPM Settings, choose Clear TPM.

You may also temporarily disable Secure Boot under Boot Options.
(Only do this if your data is backed up or BitLocker key is available.)

e. If the Screen Still Glitches or Shuts Down During Recovery

Keep the laptop connected to power.

Leave it for 20–30 minutes even if the display goes black, the BIOS process may still be running in the background.

After that, try turning it on again.

I hope this helps.
