Hi, I have a HP HDX 16 that won’t boot. I can’t even get to the boot screen by pressing ESC. It hasn’t been used for a few years but last time it was ok which makes me think it’s unlikely to be a RAM seating thing because it hadn’t really moved. Strangely when I first turned it on it did come on but displayed some BIOS message (I think) about a checksum error. I ignored that and continued to boot into Windows 10 - it took a long time and the disk light was flickering but eventually it stopped with a blue screen UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP. So I turned it off, tried to turn it back on again and… nothing. Black screen although the lights are on. No flashing indicators. I thought maybe it was the CMOS/RTC battery so changed that. Tried booting with no laptop battery in, just power. Tried the power recycle thing but it just goes straight off. Have hit ESC immediately after power on - nothing. Also tried F10. Oddly when switched on it does get quite warm underneath which suggests that the cpu is doing something. No sign of any disk flicker at all after power on.
So I’m a bit stuck really, any suggestions would be welcomed.
Cheers,
David

So of course immediately after posting this I thought “well, I’ll just try the RAM thing even though it can’t be that” - removed the first RAM module and it booted! So it won’t work either with the dodgy module by itself in the lower slot (displays splash screen but gets stuck) or with it in the upper slot (blank screen) but boots just using the one module.
