Hi @Beezz1
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Since your laptop hasn’t been used for several months, dust or debris buildup might be causing the keys to stick. Here are some steps to fix the issue:
Step 1: Clean the Keyboard
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect all cables.
- Hold the laptop upside down and gently shake it to remove loose debris.
- Use compressed air to blow out dust from under the keys.
- Wipe the keys with a lint-free cloth and rubbing alcohol.
Step 2: Remove and Clean Stuck Keys
- If a key is severely stuck, carefully pry it off using a flat tool (like a plastic spudger).
- Clean the key and the mechanical assembly underneath with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol.
- Reattach the key by pressing down firmly on all four corners.
Step 3: Run a Keyboard Diagnostic
- Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and run a Keyboard Test to check for hardware issues.
Step 4: Check for Software Issues
- Open Device Manager → Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click your keyboard and select Update Driver.
- If the issue persists, try Uninstalling the keyboard driver and restarting your laptop.
Step 5: Watch HP’s Official Repair Guide
- HP has a video tutorial on fixing stuck keys, including cleaning and reinstalling them.
If the issue persists after cleaning, the keyboard may need replacement. Let me know how it goes!
