System Description:

System Model: HP Laptop 15-bs0xx
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2701 MHz, 2 cores, 4 threads
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, Version 10.0.22631
RAM memory: 16 GB
Storage: 240 GB solid hard drive
Problem Description:
For some time now, I have noticed a considerable performance issue on my HP Laptop 15-bs0xx. When I connect the charger, applications, both basic and video games, suffer a significant performance drop. The frames per second decrease noticeably, and the system becomes slow, with a behavior similar to a kind of "freezing". This affects my productivity and user experience, especially in tasks that require stable and constant performance.

I have taken various measures to optimize my equipment, such as updating both the operating system (Windows 11 Pro) and the drivers of all components to their latest versions. However, the problem persists and I have not been able to identify the root cause or an effective solution.

Steps performed without success:
Complete update of Windows and all system drivers.
System optimization with recommended settings for performance.
Checking power settings in the system and BIOS to ensure they are optimized for high performance.

Assistance Request:I am requesting help to identify the source of this problem and a solution so that I can use my laptop without performance problems when connecting the charger. I would appreciate a review or suggestions on additional system settings, BIOS updates specific to this model, or any other recommendations to resolve this issue.

Hi @Alexander__ ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this performance drop—it sounds really frustrating, especially since it affects your productivity and gaming experience. Let's try to identify what's going on and get your laptop running smoothly again.

  • Have you noticed if this slowdown starts as soon as the charger is plugged in, or does it happen after some time of use while charging?
  • Do you use the original HP charger for your model, and have you tried using any other compatible charger to see if the problem persists?
  • When the performance drops, have you checked the CPU temperature or battery health? A high temperature or battery issue might be affecting performance.

Follow the steps below and if you have already tried these steps you may ignore them.

heck Power Settings and Thermal Throttling in BIOS

  • Sometimes, laptops throttle performance to avoid overheating while charging. Restart your laptop, enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F10 during startup), and check for any thermal or power management settings. Make sure settings like Power Mode are optimized for performance and not set to throttle while charging.
  • Also, ensure Hybrid Power is disabled if it’s an option, as this might limit performance when charging.

Adjust Power Plan and Processor Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
  • Select High performance or Ultimate performance if available.
  • Under Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings, look for Processor power management and set the Minimum processor state to 100% for both “On battery” and “Plugged in.”

Check HP Command Center (If Installed)

  • HP Command Center (or any HP utility software) can adjust performance based on power conditions. Open HP Command Center and confirm that Performance Mode is selected when plugged in.
  • If this option isn’t available, consider downloading the latest version of HP Command Center from HP’s website.

Test Charger and Battery Health

  • Connect your charger, then open Device Manager and go to Battery > Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Right-click and choose Uninstall device for both (they’ll reinstall on restart).
  • Restart your laptop and check performance. This can sometimes reset the battery calibration if it’s affecting system power allocation.

Run Diagnostics for Hardware Issues

  • Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (you may need to download it from HP’s site if not already installed).
  • Run a System Extensive Test, especially focusing on the battery and CPU. Check if any errors show up, as these could indicate a deeper hardware issue.

If none of these steps help, this could be an issue with the power management circuit, which may need repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
