After Win 10 updates download, the getting ready to install feature takes several hours to process.
Has this issue been a problem for others ? or is this a PC hardware / software problem ?
All HP Support Assistant updates have been completed. Laptop was Christmas present new, so was purchased in December 2017. "Thank You" for any help / assistance that you can provide.

You said you bought this in December, but I also looked at another HP PC bought in December and the Win10 version was the Creator's Update -- from March of last year, version 1703.
That PC had NOT had the Fall Creator's Update (FCU) applied, which would have then made it Win10 version 1709 -- and the FCU can take HOURS to complete because, basically, it is a whole new version of Win10.
If yours has finished, then open a command window (by typing "cmd") into the Cortana search, and once the window opens, type "winver" (without the quotes). That should show v1709 Build 16299.xx -- the xx will vary depending on which Windows Updates have been applied recently.
