Hi everyone,

I’m new to the HP Community and wanted to ask for some simple tips to keep an HP laptop running smoothly. What do you recommend for improving performance and keeping the laptop in good condition?

Thanks for any advice!

To improve performance, optimize Windows using trusted methods. There are many YouTube video guides available on this topic, but some are quite aggressive and can potentially break things.
I recommend searching for “Chris Titus Tech Windows Utility” (often called the Chris Titus utility). It’s a well-known, community-trusted tool for Windows optimization. You can also follow along with YouTube tutorials to use it safely. This approach can help make your system faster and more responsive without unnecessary risk. Make sure to know about the settings you are changing.

Also, Do these settings in Nvidia App > Graphics tab > Global settings:

  1. Power Management Mode → Prefer Maximum Performance* (Prevents frequency drops that cause stutters.)
  2. Shader Cache Size → Unlimited (Prevents shader re-compiling stutters.)
  3. Scroll down, click Show Legacy Settings→ turn off Whisper Mode.
  4. Click on apply once you done.

(Note: If you added any games in the NVIDIA App before applying these global settings, I recommend checking those games to confirm they have the same settings applied. If not, apply the same settings individually to each game)

Also, In `NVIDIA App > Settings > Features tab.`

  •  Turn off "Game Filters and Photo Mode"
  • For max performance, Also turn off NVIDIA Overlay from there. It's features like Instant Replay can cause stutters and FPS drops.
  • Turn OFF "Automatically optimize newly added games and mods".

Now, click on the Privacy tab and Turn OFF:

  • configuration, performance, and usage data".
  • Error and crash data
  • Keep "Required data" as it may be needed for basic functionality.

These are the only basic and needed settings. Reset of nvidia app settings are personal preference and mostly Good by default. Check them after knowing what they does and cost if you want to.

After completing all the optimizations and settings, open the Xbox app and sign in or create an account if required. Go to your Library, click on Xbox Mode (in the top-right corner), and then launch the game from there. This new Xbox Mode is designed to improve gaming performance. Refer to the Microsoft link below to set up Xbox Mode, as it also needs to be enabled in Settings:
