Hi there, I'm trying to fix laptop that has Error code 0xc0000185, I open up recovery menu > F2 > Hard Drive test > quick test : 

 

SMART Check : PASSED 

Short DST : FAILED 

 

FAILURE ID : 9AP261-9T7APS-XD7XGK-60VA03

PRODUCT ID : 6BL49EA#ABU 

 

Hard Drive 1 

 

Does anyone know what to do from here?

You will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

 

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

 

You notebook also has a M.2 slot that supports both SATA and NVMe SSD's according to chapter 1 of the service manual, so you may want to install a much faster M.2 NVMe SSD instead.

 

After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
