Hi, I am facing issues with my HP Laptop. It slows down as I plug in everytime. Any recommendation to tackle the problem?

If your HP laptop slows down when you plug it in, there could be several factors at play. Below are some troubleshooting steps and recommendations to help resolve this issue:
 

Possible Causes and Solutions:

  1. Power Plan Settings:
    • Check Power Settings: Often, laptops have different power settings when plugged in versus on battery.
      • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep.
      • Click on Additional power settings. Ensure that the power plan is set to Balanced or High performance.
    • Customize Advanced Power Settings: Under the current power plan, click on Change plan settings and then Change advanced power settings. Look into settings such as the processor power management and ensure both minimum and maximum processor states are set properly, suggesting values around 5-10% for minimum and 100% for maximum.
       
  2. Battery Settings:
    • Some power configurations might be set to conserve battery or manage thermals aggressively when charging. Ensure the settings aren't too restrictive, which can throttle CPU performance.
       
  3. Background Applications:
    • Check for any applications or processes that run specifically on AC power that might be consuming excess resources.
      • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for any high-usage processes when plugged in.
         
  4. Driver Issues:
    • Ensure all drivers are up to date, especially power management and chipset drivers.
    • Visit the Official HP® Support to download the latest drivers for your specific laptop model.
       
  5. Thermal Throttling:
    • It’s possible that when connected to power, the laptop’s performance settings cause it to heat up, resulting in thermal throttling. Ensure that all the laptop's vents are clean and unobstructed.
       
  6. BIOS Settings:
    • Check the BIOS settings to ensure there are no power-saving modes enabled that might affect performance.
    • Update the BIOS if necessary, as newer versions might have better power management.
