Hi,

system was working, and got notification to upgrade to win 11, I did but a month later got the back screen boot system not found, looks like the 1TB hard drive is gin.

my plans is to try to obtain a recovery cd and install the new system on ssd at the same time.

is this doable??

Thank you in advance.

17-ca1065c1 is an invalid model, I think it is an HP Notebook - 17-ca1065cl (letter l, not number 1its specs

Yes, you can replace 1TB with a 1TB 2.5" SATA SSD, for example

        https://www.samsung.com/au/memory-storage/sata-ssd/870-evo-4tb-sata-3-2-5-ssd-mz-77e4t0bw/

If you wish, you can also add M.2 SATA 3 or NVMe SSD to your machine and replace faulty HDD at the same time.

OK, what is you blank SSD ? Is it a 2.5" SSD or something else ? You can simply

  1. Remove the old HDD and install the new one - the one you have,
  2. Create a boot media (USB, DVD ...) - you have to use other machine for example from friends or relatives
  3. Use media (from (b) above) to install new Windows to your machine,
  4. Connect machine to internet - normally machine will ask you to connect to your home network for wifi to work. if no wifi, you have to use LAN cable, normally machine will ask
  5. Run Windows updates few times - not one go, say 10 mins apart,

For your data/files on your the old HDD, hope you can use it as an external HDD to access and move to new drive otherwise, you may need a professional service.

Regards.

Banhian,

yes the ssd is 2.5

thank you for your patient, and thank you for the detailed response.

the bad HD was running win 11, my other laptop also running win 11, both are legal ( Costco and amazon),

will be using the running laptop to generate boot media as you descripted.

but mu 1st question is , does the new downloaded windows will recognize the original pc and will RE register the win 11 again under my name?

2nd question, do I have to go to HP site and RE download all drivers? or will be downloaded automatically with the new windows?

Thank you.
