HP Recommended

I own an HP OMEN 16 MAX and have been experiencing severe stability issues under Windows 11 since the time of purchase. Under load, the system repeatedly performs sudden and unexpected shutdowns, which significantly limits its usability for my work.

Previously, I used the predecessor model, the HP OMEN 16, for an extended period with a very similar software setup and workload, without encountering any comparable issues. I primarily work in the 3D domain and use several applications that heavily utilize the GPU. Based on my observations, the shutdowns appear to occur particularly during high GPU and system load.

I have already carried out the following measures without success:

  • complete reinstallation of Windows 11

  • installation of all available BIOS and firmware updates

  • updating all drivers and testing with reduced performance / power settings

  • verification of proper cooling conditions (device placed freely on a desk with sufficient airflow on all sides)

  • operation without additional peripherals except an EIZO monitor, keyboard, mouse, and webcam (identical hardware previously used without issues on the older model)

The use of hardware analysis and monitoring tools has not yet revealed a clear cause.

As the problem has been present since purchase and persists despite clean installations and updates, I no longer assume this to be a pure driver or software issue. Instead, I consider a hardware defect to be likely. In addition, there are reports online suggesting that certain configurations combining a high-performance CPU with a powerful NVIDIA GPU may suffer from thermal issues.
