HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 (2W0J6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Omen, with Windows 11,  is only a few months old.  Periodically, the laptop has locked up when I'm playing a couple of different games on Steam.  (Repeated lockup following 1st forced reboot.)  Today, I got a blue screen error with a "Clock_WatchDog_ Timeout" error.  I've searched for this error on various websites, and it appears the recommended solutions on various websites are all over the place.  (BIOS, memory, SFC, drivers, uninstall software, ...)  I did a memory check, fine.  I did SFC, and no system files had an issue.  Windows updates are current.  And, I really don't know what drivers or software could be the cause.  I'm starting to get the feeling that fixing my random lockups is practically hopeless since there is no clear way to identify the cause rather than randomly rebuilding everything.  Is there any point in contacting HP or Windows tech support?  Which one?  Any advice out there as to what to do next???

Hi@AMSDAD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP 17.3 Inch Laptop PC Freezes with error messages when playing games.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to latest BIOS from HP.COM.
  • Make sure the Windows and HP support assistant updates are up to date.
  • Try doing Reset PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works.
  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics is a Windows-based utility that allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine whether the computer hardware is functioning properly. The tool runs within the Windows operating system in order to diagnose hardware failures.
